Popcorn

I love popcorn!  I get my love of popcorn from my dad.  He made a batch of popcorn almost every night!  Only, he popped it the old-fashioned way…..poor some oil in the pan, heat it up, throw in some popcorn kernels, put the lid on the pot and with one hand holding the lid with a potholder and the other hand holding the handle of the pot, he would drag the pan back and forth across the fire until he heard no more kernels popping.  Sometimes the lid would start coming off of the pan because there was too much popcorn.  He had a special pan just for popping his popcorn.  He probably made twice as much as what a bag of popcorn would make in the microwave today.  And the only thing he would add to it was salt after it was popped.  No butter or anything!

It takes me 2 minutes to fix up a bag of popcorn.  And never do all of the kernels get popped!  It probably took daddy 10 minutes, but every kernel was popped!  My generation is so impatient!  We have to have everything right now!  We can’t wait around for things, we are busy!  That’s why microwave popcorn was created!  That’s why curling irons were created…..almost instant curls instead of the old fashioned sponge or plastic rollers that you had to wear to bed with a scarf or something wrapped around them to hold them in place all night.  Blenders and food processors do a much faster job of chopping and mixing.  Have you noticed we are not still driving our buggies around that are led with horses?  NO!  Gotta have that horse power underneath the hood of a car.  How about that automatic washing machine versus the wringer washer…..the automatic clothes dryer versus taking all day to hang the laundry out on the line and then have to bring it all back in again!  I could go on and on and on and on…….

But, I won’t!  I like all of my conveniences and gadgets!  Not sure how much time I actually save, however!  The more stuff I have, the less time I have!  😀

Miss you, daddy!

Aw, I get my love of popcorn from my dad too! And he makes a bag every night too! Promptly at 8:00pm. 🙂

I am right with you on modern conveniences – my favorite is great medicine! I could probably go back a little bit and do some chores the old fashioned way, but modern medicine isn’t something I would want to trade for anything!

You are so right, Jessica! Without modern medicine, where would Tim be?
