Beloved, Let Us Love One Another

Today’s Devotional Reading:
1 John 4:7-12
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

v.10 “propitiation” is a sacrifice that God was pleased with or satisfied with in payment for the sins of His chosen people.

We didn’t seek out God for salvation. We didn’t first love God. If it was left up to us, we would NEVER come to God! God, in His mercy and grace, drew us to Himself with cords of love! Not because He had to, since we loved Him! No, no! We didn’t, couldn’t love Him first! It was not in us to love Him. There was no spark of goodness in us that just needed to be fanned into a flame of love for God! The Bible is clear that there is NONE good…..no, not even ONE!!! There is NONE that seek after God. There are several verses in the OT that tell us this. Here it is from Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth (exhibited) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. In God’s eyes, Christ had already died for us when the plan was set in motion before the foundations of the world! Ephesians 1:4 According as HE HATH CHOSEN us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: In John 17:20, Jesus prayed for us when He said, “Neither pray I for these alone (the Christians of His day), but for them also which SHALL believe (that’s US today and since He died!) on me through their (the disciples before us) word;”

I hope you see that God chose us! We did not choose Him! I am so glad He showed His mercy and grace toward me. I definitely didn’t/don’t deserve it!

So, (v.11) Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
