Scars in Heaven

Casting Crowns has a wonderful song to remind us that those who are in Jesus have a wonderful hope of seeing our loved ones again who were in Jesus when they died. Watch it here.

The redeemed of God will have no scars in heaven. What does the Bible say that gives me a reason to believe this? I’m glad you asked! The book of Revelation is the last book in the Bible and the things contained in the writings are things that will take place in the future in heaven. The saved will be there in their resurrected bodies. God told John to write these things down so we could have a small glimpse into what heaven is going to be like for us:……..

Revelation 7:16-17 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. Revelation 21:3-5 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

Jesus, in his resurrected body, was still on earth for 40 days before He ascended into heaven where he is today. He had a few more instructions and needed to prove to some of the disciples that He had, indeed, died but arose again and is alive! One such disciple was Thomas. Here is the account:…….

John 20:24-31 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Jesus did not lose his scars. They will be a reminder to us throughout eternity of the sacrifice He made to redeem a people unto Himself to be with Him throughout all eternity! It boggles my mind to think that I am one of His chosen ones. It humbles me. It brings tears to my eyes because I am so unworthy of the gift He has given to me. Thank You, Lord Jesus!

The Bridge

The WordPress writing prompt for the month of March is “Bridge”. This is my contribution to that theme. In keeping with the spiritual theme of my blog, I pray this is a blessing and an encouragement to those who read it. And perhaps someone who is reading and not in a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ yet will find some clarification. I pray the Holy Spirit will give you eyes to see!

The first man, Adam, broke the first law God gave to him, as we read in Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Satan, in the form of a serpent, lied to Eve and said in Genesis 3:4-5 And the serpent said unto the woman, “Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” The temptation was too great. In the very next verse we see Adam and Eve breaking the law God had given to Adam. Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

The fellowship they had enjoyed with God in the garden was broken in this single act of disobedience. It created a chasm between them and God. They had never been ashamed that they were naked and they had never hidden from God in fear of the consequences of their wrong-doing. But this sin changed all of that! Genesis 3:7-8 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

Because of Adam’s sin…… Romans 5:12 tells us, Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. You and I do not become sinners when we sin…….we sin because we are born sinners. Psalm 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.

That’s the bad news! So, how do we cross the chasm that was made between man and God when Adam sinned? I’m glad you asked! That’s where the Bridge comes in! And it’s GOOD NEWS!

Let’s backtrack a bit. Remember how Adam and Eve, after they realized they were naked, covered themselves with fig leaves? In essence, they tried to cover their sin. But, the Bible tells us in Hebrews 9:22 that …….without shedding of blood is no remission. Remission is the cancellation of a debt, charge, or penalty. Remember what God told Adam would happen if he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? “In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” The penalty was death. The very first thing to die in the whole world was an animal God killed to cloth Adam and Eve to cover their nakedness (Genesis 3:21). “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.” This is the first picture of the shedding of blood for the remission of sin. Thus began the blood sacrifices.

All of those sacrifices did not cancel the debt of sin, however. They were just a picture of the final sacrifice that would actually cancel the debt of sin, bridging the chasm that separated man and God. That bridge was Jesus. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Romans 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Synonyms: PONDERMEDITATEMUSERUMINATE mean to consider or examine attentively or deliberately. PONDER implies a careful weighing of a problem or, often, prolonged inconclusive thinking about a matter.  pondered the course of action  MEDITATE implies a definite focusing of one’s thoughts on something so as to understand it deeply.  meditated on the meaning of life  MUSE suggests a more or less focused daydreaming as in remembrance.  mused upon childhood joys  RUMINATE implies going over the same matter in one’s thoughts again and again but suggests little of either purposive thinking or rapt absorption.  ruminated on past disappointments (Merriam Webster).

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Psalm 77:12 I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

Psalm 119:15-16 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

1 Timothy 4:13-16 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. When you ruminate, you chew something over, either literally or figuratively. Literal rumination may seem a little gross to humans, but to cows, chewing your cud (that’s partially digested food brought up from the stomach for another chew) is just a natural part of life. Figurative ruminating is much more palatable to humans; that kind of deep, meditative thought is often deemed quite a worthy activity. The verb ruminate has described metaphorical chewing over since the early 1500s and actual chewing since later that same century. Our English word derives from and shares the meanings of the Latin ruminari, which in turn derives from rumen, the Latin name for the first stomach compartment of ruminant animals (that is, creatures like cows that chew their cud). (Merriam Webster)

Just like sheep and cattle chew their food more than once, God wants His children to chew our spiritual food over and over again. If we are reading and thinking about God’s word, it gets buried deep in our minds and will help us when we least expect it to. Hiding God’s word in our hearts gives us a chance to bring it back up to chew on…..meditate on…..again and again. The process of animals ruminating their food does sound pretty gross, but it is the perfect picture of what God wants us to do with His word!

New Growth

Every Spring we expect to see new growth on our trees, shrubs and bushes. It is a sign of health. It is a sign of life. And, really, it is the same in our growth as Christians. There should be growth on a continuing basis. At times there will be bursts of growth while at other times the growth is very slight. But the growth should be there.

We start out as babes in Christ. 1 Peter 2:2 says, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”, and the more we nourish ourselves on the word of God, the more we grow. Soon we can digest more than just milk. We can begin to chew on the meat of God’s word as we learn about the doctrines of God. In 2 Peter 3:18 Peter says, “…..grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” The more we read God’s word, the more we hear it expounded as we attend church, the more we learn and grow in Christ as His Spirit teaches us! If we are not desiring to read and spend time reading God’s word and meditating on it, something is WRONG!!!

With growth comes the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. We begin to be more like Jesus. The following verses are the life that Jesus lived here on Earth as an example for us. Galatians 5:22-23 “…..the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance…..”

Are you showing new growth year after year? Are you becoming more and more like Jesus?

Destiny

While this sounds nice, Christians need to switch it up a bit. We know our destiny is heaven and God determines the journey. What we need to determine is whether we will trust God and enjoy the ride, or buck Him all the way through the journey. I want to hear, “Well done” at the end of my journey, even though I feel certain that I will not because of the blunders I make every day.

Aren’t you thankful for new mercies every day?!

Enjoy your journey, Christian friend, while you remember your destiny!

Guide

The Holy Spirit of God guides my foot steps every day of my life. And I’m so thankful He is leading me because I can easily fall into a pit if I’m in charge! Here are some encouraging verses and songs that speak of God’s guidance and leading in our lives.

Psalm 31:3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

Psalm 73:24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

Psalm 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.

Psalm 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Are you allowing Him to guide you and lead you each and every day?

Supernatural

Today’s writing prompt is the word “supernatural”. At first glance, the meaning of this word is “above the natural”. Natural equals what is seen. So, supernatural equals higher than the natural world…..what is not seen…..the spiritual world, my definition.

Miriam Webster’s definition is:

1: of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable universe, especially of or relating to God or a god, demigod, spirit, or devil

2adeparting from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws of nature

b: attributed to an invisible agent (such as a ghost or spirit)

The word “supernatural” is not actually in the Bible. But we do see words such as principalities, powers, invisible, which refer to the “supernatural”.

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible (natural) and invisible (supernatural), whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

God is invisible.

Angels are invisible.

Satan is a fallen angel and is invisible.

Just because they are invisible doesn’t mean they can’t be involved in your life. In this Bible story example, the king of Syria was going after Elisha, the prophet in Israel. And Elisha’s servant was worried when he saw the huge number of army that came after them.

2 Kings 6:14-17 Therefore sent he (the king of Syria) thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

God was there with His army to fight for Elisha.

Jesus didn’t have to die on the cross for us. He could have been rescued from the cross. When the soldiers came for Him in the Garden of Gethsemane, Peter drew a sword to fight and protect Jesus from being taken…..

Matthew 26:51-54 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. Then said Jesus unto him, “Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?”

It was God’s plan to save sinners through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross…..for me…..for you. Have you accepted His sacrifice He made for you?

Psalm 31:5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

No matter what happens to us, be it good or bad, it can’t happen if it does not have God’s stamp of approval on it! And, be it good or bad, ultimately it is for our good and His glory!

Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I don’t know about you, but those are comforting words to me! I need not fear! EVER!

Eggs – Part 3

These eggs have been sorted and cleaned and are ready to be put to use. The bad eggs were thrown away.

God has and is choosing and cleaning up some of us sinners and making us fit for His use. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

Revelation 1:5-6 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Have you been washed? Have you been cleansed? Are you ready to be put to use for the Kingdom of God?

Eggs – Part 2

Eggs come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some have spots and some are very rough. They may look differently on the outside, but inside they are have the same thing, a yolk in the egg white.

People come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, too. And no matter how pretty we are on the outside, we are all the same on the inside, full of dead men’s bones. Matthew 23:27-28 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

Only God can cleanse us of our sins and make us clean enough to go to heaven! Have you been cleansed?
